It is in his garage that Jean-Marc Beaudin, president of Empire Canada, launches the company with a partner. The budget is only $ 2,000, but Empire Canada has significant assets: a good knowledge of the community, solid contacts with several clients and suppliers, a good dose of expertise and a dynamic spirit to spare.
After the first year of effort the partner left. Jean-Marc Beaudin therefore continued the business alone. It was afterwards that Empire quickly became successful and moved to "real" 4,000 sq. Ft. business premises on Thimens Boulevard in Ville Saint-Laurent. This move marks a first step in the company's growth, which is gradually expanding its customer base and hiring new employees.
Growth is continuing and Empire Canada is moving to its current address on the Guénette Street in Ville Saint-Laurent. The company now has fifteen employees, 250 customers and 200 suppliers. The new premises are more spacious and reach 7,000 square feet.
Carole Moreau, CGA, now vice-president and shareholder of Empire Canada, joins the company as a controller; She brings with her expertise in accounting, administration and finance that strengthens the structure of the company and ensures a rigorous organization of purchases, inventory and warehouse.
Empire Canada becomes a member of Octo Groupe d'Achat, a purchasing cooperative that provides access to some 400 suppliers across Canada. This membership allows Empire to significantly increase its inventory, which now reaches more than 20,000 products.
Empire Canada takes control of Distribution MJ, a company in the Granby area that specializes in heating and ventilation products. With this acquisition, the company is diversifying its offering and expanding its customer base.
Empire Canada has about 30 competent and dedicated employees and a fleet of seven trucks. Its offices in Ville-Saint-Laurent and Saint-Alphonse-de-Granby total more than 26,000 sq. Ft. And, in addition to offices, houses an exhibition hall and two coin counters. From 1990 to 2010, the company's turnover has more than tripled, but its philosophy remains the same: always better serve its customers, as soon as possible.
